SKU proliferation, labor constraints, and tightening sustainability rules are reshaping equipment specs across the industry. ProMach’s 2026 show floor lineup is built to answer all three, with one entry already earning industry recognition before the show even opens.
According to PMMI’s 2026 Packaging State of the Industry Report, the U.S. packaging machinery market reached an estimated $11.7 billion in shipment value in 2025, and the forces behind that growth are the same ones showing up on nearly every buyer’s checklist right now: more SKUs and package formats, persistent labor constraints, early but real use of AI, and sustainability regulation that’s starting to dictate what equipment has to be able to do, not just what it costs. At PACK EXPO International 2026 (October 18–21, Booth S-3630, McCormick Place, Chicago), ProMach is bringing 11 new innovations to the show floor, and each one is a direct answer to at least one of those pressures.
Answering SKU Proliferation and the Changeover Problem
More SKUs and shorter runs mean equipment that used to be dedicated to one product now has to handle several, and switch between them fast, a shift already reshaping how processing and packaging lines get built. Four of ProMach’s new innovations are built around exactly that.

The Zacmi Be-Fill™ Can Filler, a finalist for PMMI’s 2026 Technology Excellence Awards, runs oxygen-sensitive, carbonated, and hot-fill products on a single flexible platform, in six configurations from 50 to 128 filling valves. A bowless design helps reduce product loss at changeover, dual-channel flushing cuts oxygen and CO₂ use, and an emergency cam keeps the line running through an air loss, a common cause of downtime on high-speed filling lines.
Zalkin’s FeedFlex and FlexEdge bring that same changeover logic to cap feeding and capping, with flexible feeding and continuous-motion capping designed for faster switches and less product loss. The NJM BRONCO® 4 pressure-sensitive labeler is built around operator input, delivering flexible, simple, future-ready performance as formats keep shifting. The Bartelt Umbra extends that same flexibility into an entirely different category: a large-format bagging platform that lets manufacturers add bulk, powder, and granular products to a line without buying a second, dedicated system.
Putting Digital Tools Behind a Stretched Workforce
PMMI’s research points to AI’s earliest practical use cases in packaging as capturing institutional knowledge from retiring employees and supporting real-time troubleshooting, tools that support a workforce rather than replace it. It’s the same shift already playing out in predictive maintenance across the industry, and three of ProMach’s new innovations follow it.
P.E. Labellers’ oPEn isn’t a new machine so much as a new way to work with one: an interactive 3D digital experience that lets technicians navigate machine models to locate service points, identify and order parts directly, and pull up manuals, drawings, and videos on demand. It turns maintenance and parts ordering into a self-service process instead of a phone call, and helps teams align maintenance schedules with parts availability before a line ever goes down.

Matrix’s NextGen Vertical Controls & Communications Platform, built on a next-generation Rockwell Automation controls platform, adds high-speed connectivity and advanced diagnostics to VFFS operation. Its PackML-compliant architecture supports plant-wide integration, and a FactoryTalk Optix HMI adds cloud-based access and remote collaboration. It’s the kind of standardized, IIoT-ready design the industry has been moving toward for years, built to cut commissioning time and simplify long-term support.
Panther’s APEX™ label printer applicator brings that same connected, adaptable approach to fulfillment environments, using adaptive tamp technology and intelligent product sensing to keep pace with high-speed, dynamic operations without adding headcount.
Making the End of the Line Ready for E-Commerce and Sustainability Rules
Extended Producer Responsibility policies and single-use plastic restrictions are pushing manufacturers toward machinery that can handle a wider range of substrates, and the growth of e-commerce is adding pressure of its own: more formats, more fulfillment-specific packaging, and less tolerance for waste. ProMach has four new innovations built for exactly that overlap.
The Rennco 301 Paper E-commerce System is a sustainability-focused, semi-automatic vertical bagging system built for e-commerce, 3PL, and fulfillment operations, cutting material use and right-sizing packages for shipping without slowing down fulfillment. The Serpa Integrated Case Packer/Palletizer addresses the labor-heavy, repetitive work of palletizing with a compact-footprint system built for efficient changeovers, accessibility, and serialization. It’s an application PMMI’s research points to as gaining traction with robotics. The Wexxar Bel IPAK FS100 Flange Sealer targets a specific, costly failure point: tray failures during palletizing that otherwise turn into wasted product and rework. And the Statco-DSI Therma-Dose brings next-generation inline enzyme dosing to UHT processing, optimizing usage to improve product quality while cutting down on waste, an early sign of the systems-level thinking reshaping liquid food lines industry-wide.
Eleven new machines, one shared direction. That’s the thinking behind Built to Run as One, ProMach’s approach to building equipment and solutions that connect to what’s already there, so customers get a full line of capabilities working as one. These 11 innovations join the rest of ProMach’s lineup on display at Booth S-3630 during PACK EXPO International 2026, October 18–21 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
